Overview:

SMS registration is a mandatory process for businesses that send Application-to-Person (A2P) text messages in the U.S. This registration ensures compliance with carrier regulations, enhances message deliverability, and reduces the likelihood of messages being marked as spam.

Key Components:

  1. Brand Registration:

    • Submit your legal company name, Tax ID (EIN), industry, and contact details.

    • Provide a website URL; social media pages are not accepted for 10DLC registration.

  2. Campaign Registration:

    • Define your messaging use case (e.g., customer care, marketing). More can be found here: SMS Campaign Registration for 10 DLC

    • Provide sample messages and describe your opt-in process.

    • Ensure opt-in methods are clear and verifiable, such as web forms or SMS keywords.

  3. Number Types:

    • 10DLC (10-Digit Long Code): Standard business numbers requiring registration with The Campaign Registry (TCR).

Compliance Requirements:

  • Include clear opt-out instructions in messages (e.g., "Reply STOP to unsubscribe").

  • Provide a privacy policy on your website stating that opt-in data won't be shared with third parties.

  • Avoid prohibited content categories, such as SHAFT-C (Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, Cannabis).

Registration Process:

  • Work with OneCloud to facilitate registration.

  • Complete the necessary forms and submit them through the OneCloud 10DLC registration form.

  • Await approval from carriers; processing times may vary.

Important Dates:

  • As of February 1, 2025, carriers began blocking SMS traffic from unregistered numbers.
